WCMCC is pleased to welcome Greg Quilliam, our new Assistant Club Coach to the squad for the 2019/20 season. Here’s a bit about Greg.
Tell us a bit about yourself… I am from Townsville in North Queensland, I moved to Canberra for work in 2010, my wife is a trained nurse, my daughter is at UC and my son is in Grade 11 at St Edmund's. We normally return to Townsville for holidays but my favourite place to visit is Hawaii, the problem is I have only been there for work. I am a big fan of BBQ ribs.
What do you like most about cricket? I have loved cricket since I was a child. The personal challenge and the mateship has always been an inspiration. In 1993, I started a cricket team called the Simpson Desert Alpine Team who still play in the Goldfield Ashes in Charters Towers North Queensland. I try and get back up to play for them every Australia day long weekend.
What are you most looking forward to about the upcoming season and your involvement with WCMCC? I am looking forward to helping John Rogers make training more organised and coordinated. I am hoping to help players improve their skills and help them be better players. I look forward to helping young players develop skills that may see them move into higher grades, and I would like players to have a better understanding of their process for how to be successful. Of course, I hope to help each grade win more games.
Who in the cricket industry would you most like to meet and why? Ricky Ponting or Kumar Sangakkara, I believe gaining a true understanding of their philosophies on how to mentally prepare to be a successful cricketer would be invaluable.
Looking forward to working with you Greg! Be sure to say Hi! when you see him around.
