CLUB CHAMPION AWARDS

Cricketer of the Year - Tony Cibiras Award

Peter Radford continued to strike fear into opposition hearts with 785 runs and 10 catches this season. He also led a young Fourth grade squad into finals for the one day and two day competitions. Another fantastic season from Radders.

T20 Player of the Year - Ray Hatch Shield

Atharv Deshpande joined the club from Sydney this year for most of the T20 competition. He showed his class in First grade with 279 runs at an average of 93 and a strike rate of 125.7. We look forward to Deshy playing with us again next season.

All Rounder of the year - Chris Browning Award

Our Club Coach Norman Vanua proved his class with bat and ball again this season, scoring 450 runs at an average of 26.5 and taking 20 wickets with the ball.

Fielder of the year - Sean Maxwell Shield

Our Women’s skipper Kate Lussick took a remarkable 16 catches in the field this season to secure the award.

OFF-FIELD AWARDS

Time to recognise the significant contribution of volunteers that make it club great.

Jeff Deards award for off-field contribution

Ray Hatch aka Hatchy is a long time servant of the game and our club. This season he again supported our First Grade team on game day, making sure they were organised with everything required for home ands away games. He provides a presence at training that organises the jets and ensures they run smoothly, as well as getting the match balls sorted for all grades. He does all of this quietly in the background, which is greatly appreciated.

Percy Samara Wickrama award for Excellence in administration

Michelle Lussick is our Director of Female Cricket and the winner of this years award. Michelle manages our senior women’s team and our junior girls program. Her efforts in recent years has ensured our junior girls numbers stay strong and has provided a pathway into senior cricket. The benefits of this for attracting and retaining players to our club also being a huge part of the reason behind this years premiership win!

BATTING AWARDS

Little doubt as to who would be taking out the Cade Brown award for the most outstanding batting achievement. With her unbeaten 138 from just 84 balls in the Lynne O’Meara Cup final, Tia Slater is a deserving winner.

The winner of the Bruce Malbon award for the best batting aggregate is Peter Radford, who had another outstanding season racking up 785 runs at an average of 60.4.

MOST IMPROVED CRICKETERS

This season the awards go to two young players who made big strides forward. The winners this season were Pat Fogarty and Yanee Bhatia.

Yanee was the second leading wicket taker with 19 wickets at an average of 19, she took 9 catches and scored 137 runs @ 17.1 - all increases from last season. She was also a great contributor to the @wcmccwomensofficial overall vibe and a big part of their success.

Last season Pat Fogarty was part of a young group developing in Fourth and Fifth grade. This season Pat’s cricket improved with both bat and ball, seeing him progress through the ranks from Fourth to Second grade this season. He scored 281 runs at an average of 25.6 and took 14 wickets @ 21.9.

REPRESENTATIVE AND YOUNG CRICKETERS OF THE YEAR

Our Rep cricketer of the year is Jeet Mehta. Jeet had a busy representative season including Nationals carnivals for the u19s and u17 teams and was also selected to play for the Comets in trial games against Tasmania and Newcastle.

Our young cricketers of the year are Kate Lussick and Ubaid Sohail who were selected amongst a very competitive field of young players.

Kate had another terrific season as captain of our women’s team scoring 521 runs at an average of 32.6, including several unbeaten innings as the teams opener. Her captaincy was also a feature as she created a positive environment for her team that ultimately was a huge factor in their grand final victory. Kate was also recognised as the Cricket ACT SJ Moore medal for Female Player of the year.

Ubaid impressed in his first season with the club making his first grade debut early in the season and performing admirably, taking7 wickets in his 8 games throughout the year. He was also selected in the ACT u17 nationals team and we look forward to seeing more of Ubaid in the future.
